Robot Elevator & Lift Integration Explained

Robot elevator integration connects an autonomous robot mission with a building lift so the robot can move between approved floors. It is not a universal plug-and-play feature: the selected robot, elevator controller, building permissions and interface method must be verified together.

What elevator integration must coordinate

A multi-floor workflow may require several coordinated states.

  • Requesting or calling the lift
  • Selecting an approved floor
  • Knowing when doors are open or closed
  • Entering and exiting safely
  • Handling unavailable or interrupted lift journeys
  • Applying floor and access permissions

How robots communicate with lifts

The integration method varies by elevator system and project. It may involve a supported API, gateway, relay, building system or another approved interface. Compatibility should never be assumed across an entire elevator brand.

Who needs to be involved

Robot integrators, building operators, facility teams and elevator/system vendors may each own part of the final workflow. Roles and approval responsibilities should be defined before commissioning.

Testing the real journey

Commissioning should cover normal missions and exceptions such as a busy lift, denied floor access, network failure or interrupted journey. A manual fallback should be documented.
