Hospitals in India Are Adopting Service Robots — Here's Why

by Rife Technologies 09 Aug 2026

Healthcare is a major growth area for service robots in India. Leading hospitals — including some of the country’s most trusted names — are deploying robots for medication delivery, patient assistance, and navigating hospital corridors. The results are transforming how care is delivered.

Apollo Hospitals — India’s largest and most trusted private hospital network — is investing in delivery robots for its facilities. This is a landmark moment for the Indian healthcare robotics sector. When Apollo moves, the industry follows.

Apollo’s adoption of delivery robots signals that autonomous hospital logistics is no longer experimental — it is becoming standard practice for world-class healthcare in India.

AIIMS Delhi & Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital

Two of India’s most prestigious healthcare institutions — AIIMS Delhi and Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai — have already deployed service assistant robots. These robots are being used for:

  • Medication delivery to wards and patient rooms
  • Patient assistance and wayfinding within the hospital
  • Transporting lab samples between departments
  • Navigating hospital corridors autonomously without disrupting staff

When institutions of this calibre trust robots, it sends a powerful signal to the entire Indian healthcare industry.

Pune Airport — Multilingual Robot Assistance

Pune Airport tested a multilingual AI robot for passenger assistance — demonstrating that healthcare-adjacent sectors are also adopting this technology. The robot answered questions in multiple languages, making it accessible to India’s diverse population. The same capability is directly applicable to hospital environments where patients speak different regional languages.

Why Hospitals Are Turning to Robots

  • Reduce Staff Workload: Robots handle repetitive delivery tasks, freeing nurses for patient care
  • Contactless Delivery: Reduces infection risk — critical in hospital environments
  • 24/7 Availability: Medications and supplies delivered at any hour without overtime costs
  • Multilingual Support: Communicate with patients in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi, and more
  • Consistent Accuracy: No delivery errors, no missed rounds, no fatigue

The Signal for Hospital Administrators

Apollo, AIIMS, and Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital are not early adopters — they are leaders. Their investment in service robots validates the technology for every hospital administrator in India. The question is no longer whether to adopt robots — it’s when and which ones.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
